Kelvin Young


Kelvin Young is a Recovery Coach, certified Sound Healer and owner of Kelvin Young, LLC.  He is also a person in sustained recovery which means Kelvin hasn't used alcohol or any other drug to cope with his mental and emotional distress since March, 6th 2009. Kelvin received his recovery coaching training at CT Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) and his Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) certification at Recovery University. (Advocacy Unlimited) He is also trained in Intentional Peer Support (IPS) and Emotional CPR. (eCPR)  The first time Kelvin was exposed to sound healing, he discovered the sounds of the crystal and Tibetan singing bowls and gongs calmed his mind, relaxed his body and nourished his soul. He went on to study sound healing with Master Sound Healers, Zacciah Blackburn of The Center of Light, Paul Hubbert of the Holographic Sound and Inner Balance and Satya Brat Jaiswal of the International Academy of Sound Healing. Kelvin has also studied with Brian Luke Seaward of Inspiration Unlimited, a renowned international expert in the field of holistic stress management.  

 

Kelvin has presented around the country in diverse settings, including CCAR Multiple Pathways to Recovery Conference, Alternatives Conference, Yoga Reaches Out, Newtown Yoga Festival, The Shift Network, Indie Yoga in San Francisco, CA, Alex Grey's Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, Copper Beech Institute, CT Women's Consortium, yoga studios, retreat centers, conferences, high schools, colleges, prisons, addiction treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals and mental health agencies. He also was presented with the 2017 Dr. F. Marcus Brown Memorial Integrative Medicine Award for exceptional commitment to incorporating integrative medicine within CT Valley Hospital, a state psychiatric hospital. Kelvin also serves on the board of directors at Manchester CT HOPE Initiative and CT BIPOC Mental Health and Wellness Initiative. He is an active member for the Recovery Coaches International, CT Alcohol and Drug Policy Council and Sound Healer's Association.

 

Kelvin is a founding member of Toivo, a DMHAS funded, recovery-focus peer-run holistic healing center in Hartford, CT. He also has been inducted into the CT Hall of Change in September, 2020 which is designed to recognize formerly incarcerated men and women who have made substantial contribution to CT communities since their release. Kelvin was also featured in a powerful documentary on trauma, addiction and recovery called "Uprooting Addiction and is the author of "Finding Freedom Behind Bars: A Journey Of Self-Discovery & Healing" where he shares his story of addiction, incarceration and 3 keys that have helped him move forward without turning back to self-destructive ways of coping or simply giving up.

 

Kelvin sustains his health and recovery by eating a vegetarian/plant-based diet, practicing sound healing, deep breathing exercises, listening to uplifting and relaxing music, body movement, being in nature, reading, journaling, massages, resting and connecting with family and friends.

 

Today, he coaches and publicly speaks on addiction recovery to people from all walks of life. Kelvin also facilitates private and  group sound healing sessions at different locations throughout the United States. He is passionate about holding space for people to heal and is known for his warm, loving and down-to-earth way of connecting with people.
